Madison + John | Ohio Engagement Session

You know some of those friends that you have, the ones where no matter how long its been, your relationship never changes? That's how mine and Madison's friendship is. We were practically inseparable until we were 11, and ever since then we've drifted in and out of each others lives, but no matter what this girl will always mean the world to me.

In September I was home to shoot a wedding and visit family, and thats when John popped the question at a John Mayer concert. As soon as I saw the post on Instagram I messaged Madison right away because I new I HAD to photograph their love ASAP. So, the night before we left, Dec and I took Madison and John on a little adventure which has resulted in some of my favorite photos ever.

OH- And I shot this on my 5D Mark II, which I had totally written off since I got my Mark III. But since Dec needed the Mark III to shoot video, I got to give my Mark II another shot. And honestly, I am SO glad I did. And you can get one used for like... $900 bucks now which is a total steal for the quality of photos you get. Sure, if you can afford it the Mark III has a lot of better features, but if you want to better your photo game without shelling out an extra $1,000 I definitely recommend this camera body.

Also- this was Declan's first real go at engagement videography and I think he KILLED it. This is the session that sparked the dream for Lace+Waves, and therefore will forever hold a place in our hearts. Check out the film for yourself!

I think what I love about this session is how much Madison and John trusted me. They didn't mind if I told them to run back and forth 10 times, or to "jump like a koala" onto John. They sat and absorbed each other and we had so much FUN. Long story short, trust your photographers vision. Encourage them to be an artist. Give them space to create. If you do, your session just might turn out better than you'd ever imagine.
